I came down with the flu late last night. I’ve been having quite a bit of nausea and vomiting, but nothing serious. However, my lower back is unbearably painful. I can’t sleep, and can hardly get out of bed because of it. Has anybody experienced this with the flu? I was also told that I might have endometriosis a couple of months ago. I’ve been undergoing tests for that, and currently have a laparascopy booked, but until then I won’t know for sure. Can endo cause pain like this when you’re sick? I’m on the pill right now, and was instructed to take it without any breaks, so I have not been having a period. I am used to having rather severe lower back pains, but I’ve never experienced pain like this before. If anybody can provide me with any help or information that would be incredible! Thx :)

Over the past few days I’ve had some slight lower back pain due to some heavy snow shovelling. Nothing too severe. I actually thought it was getting better, but then tonight I was lying on the floor on my back watching TV, and I went to get up and the pain was so severe I had to get someone to help me to my bed. I can’t stand, neel, or even sit. The only way I can describe it is if there is any pressure straight down on my spine (kneeling, sitting, or standing) it is truly unbearable. Excruciating. What have I done and why did it happen so fast just while I was lying there?

About 3 weeks ago, I woke up with severe lower back pain that is located right in the centre, just above my butt (so it’s not my coccyx). At the time, I took 100mg tramadol and heat packs and it went away in about 5 days. Since then, it’s been coming back randomly, and only lasting about 2 days. However, today it’s back with a vengeance. I was barely able to walk 5 hours ago and tramadol hasn’t helped. I’ve spent the last 5 hours laying on my back on the couch on a heat pack, and it’s loosened up a bit, but it’s still painful as hell and difficult to walk. I have a doctor’s appt on the 11th but in the meantime, what should I do? I have to go out on Friday, and I’m supposed to spend the weekend away, how can I do this with the back pain? I have a codeine allergy so things like Panadeine Forte aren’t an option.
Seeing a chiropractor is not practical as they cost a fortune and are not covered by Australian Medicare.

dr’s keep telling me it’s a reaccuring pulled muscle but i don’t think so. this hurts so bad when sitting and it hurts when my body is completely straight out on the bed. but inbetween it just aches. this has kept me from getting up off the couch and bed a lot of times. i heard dr’s can’t see everything in your back so what can this be?

for the past week i have had severe lower back pain, almost at my tail bone, and I don’t know what I did to cause this. It is so bad that I can’t sit comfortably and it is very hard to get up from a chair or couch. This morning I had to have help getting out of bed. I have tried a heating pad but that did nothing. Tylenol doen’t help either. I had been painting trim around my house for the week before so I had been sitting on the floor. Could this have caused my back pain?

Both Sleeping and Standing / walking (even for a short time) cause fairly severe lower back pamildly both instances are midly relieved by getting out of bed and sitting down respectively.
The pain at night can be excruciating, every smallest move.
The daytime pain – walking and standing is really starting to restrict my life.
I’m female and 38yrs old.
Does anyone know what causes this ?
My overall posture is very good, mattress good, I exercise, good diet, healthy and all the rest.

It’s been 5 months and my lower back hurts so much worse than it ever did while I was pregnancy. Sometimes when I stand up the pain shoots down the front of my legs and through my lower back so strong, I have to try to sit back down. (Which usually just causes even more pain). It’s really starting to affect my every day life. Has this happened to anyone else? What was the problem?

Usually pulmonary embolism (blood clots in the lungs) are the result of venous stasis in the lower extremities from inactivity. Basically, you get a blood clot in your legs which break off and migrate elsewhere, usually the lungs, this is also known as DVT or deep vein thrombosis. Inactivity, such as prolonged sitting or bedrest due to injury or surgery could predispose one to the formation of such clots. Severe lower back pain could certainly compromise mobility, leading to increased risk for DVT.

I suffer with gas/flatulence, followed by severe, debillitating lower back pain that lasts for several days. Nothing seems to help it. I’ve tried over-the-counter remedies such as GAS-X or Beano, and they don’t help. These attacks usually occur after I eat peanuts, peanut products, or beans. The lower back pain is so severe I can’t go to work, I can’t exercise, I usually stay in bed with a heat pad. I was once told I have diverticulosis. I need help with this pain. Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!

Appendix, kidney stone, infected ovary, hernia and fecal impaction all come to mind. Can you go to the doctor?
