during my second pregnancy i started having sciatica problems. my obgyn told me that it would go away after i had my son. well it didn’t, my nerve was damaged and just got worse and eventually got to the point i could not walk. my dr wouldn’t write me a referral to see a specialist because pregnancy medicaid would not pay for it and have no other insurance coverage. i have tried getting assistance everywhere and no one will help me. i went to a pain management center a few weeks ago and got a epidural steroid and it has helped allot but i am gradually getting back to the way i was but i cant get another epidural. i had to pay for that one and i cant afford another one. i know its harsh to say but i would rather be dead than to go through that again. im so scared i will be bed ridden again. please help me and let me know if there’s anything else i can do to relieve my pain. ive been on any pain medication out there and steroid packs and nothing has helped. im not able to do the exercises i found online. so if you know anything else, please help.

I sit at a computer many hours a day. From time to time I get problems with sciatica, sometimes this is painful in my lower back but more likely it causes sensations and discomfort in my legs. At the moment the muscles in my left leg feel very weak, almost as if they cannot support me. I am also getting some pins and needles in my one arm, which I guess is another tapped nerve. I have seen an osteopath and he tends to sort me out but at a cost. He believes it is the muscles which are tightening that is causing my problem. What can I do on a daily basis to keep there muscles supple. I have done the usual back exercises without much relief.

Also when I take ibuprofen, does this just mask the pain or does the anti inflammatory help to cure the problem.

Ta!

I have had steroid injections with little help, the nerve has very little space to go through, any options?

Why or why are Drs.at such a battle about what the correct way, to go about dealing with back pain, joint or disk problems and arguementative-the chiropractor says, no pain meds, the physician says take pain medicine and stay away from chiropractors. Then a bone specialist will tell you to have surgery even though the risk for nicking a nerve could lead to permaneant paralysis?
Thank you!
Miri, thanks for clearing that all up, it makes sense. I have been to all three and have not opted to do surgery, thankfully they haven’t pushed, yet.
Susan, I appreciate the extra info. I had an abusive boyfriend who caused serious injuries to my back and it would be nice going to a pain specialist and Not have to go into the q&a ordeal again.
Gmoney, What you said was uncalled for. Get some tact and clean up you’re act.

I was suffering from upper back pain and even neck pain since 2 weeks. I went to the physician and he referred to me Chiropractic coz he couldn’t figure out the cause. After visiting Chiropractic, I discovered that my spine was little curved rather than being straight. I had not known this my whole life. I am now 25 years old. Because of the position of spine, I was told that the nerve was pinched and that is the cause for pain. So he started giving me impulses on the back and told that it would take 8 mths to make my spine straight and normal. I am really confused at this point because I wonder will I be completely okay after 8 mths or not. I have still the pain in my back and it gets worse with little physical activities. Did anyone have such problem ? Are Chiropractic really good in making the spine straight or I am in dilemma ? What would you suggest ? Should I go regular until 8 months and expect something good or its just waste of time and money. Thanks

I have always had lower back problems and have had to go to physical therapy for them, which helped a lot.

I am 18 weeks pregnant right now and for the last month I have been having periodic numbness in my left leg where it gives out while I walk, especially when going up stairs and getting up from sitting for a while. I work 7 hours a day at a desk job as well, so I’m sitting a lot although I am in good health and at a healthy weight. My doctor is concerned and said that he suspects it will get worse as time goes on, since I’m still not showing at this point and will have more pressure on the nerve as I get larger. He is planning on giving me a cane if it gets worse. Physical therapy is sort of an option, but we’re stationed overseas and our base is very small, I’m not sure if they are able to fit a pregnant woman in for physical therapy here.

Does anyone have any suggestions on stretches or any pregnancy-safe exercises to strengthen my lower back (since I can’t do any abdominal strengthening, it takes out almost all of my exercises from my previous physical therapy)? The doctor suggested stretching but only gave us one example.

Thank you for your help!

I am going to a pain managment clinic. They are going to burn the nerve to me some relief for a bit. Is there something I can do to help with this problem. Something like some kind of exercise or something?

this nerve is fricken killing me, and i gotta play hockey tomorrow. i’ve tried ibuprofen, since it’s an anti-inflammatory, but are there any exercises or stretches i can do?

All the doctor has done is give me more tablets, which dull the pain, but don’t cure the condition.
I have been to an osteopath, and the pain is now even worse, I think he has pinched a nerve.
There doesn’t seem to be any solution.

I hurt my ankle in Jan last year and my knee in March. The doctors at my university could not figure it out but when I went home for the summer I saw some really good sports docs who told me that my peroneal nerve was entrapped. After going to physical therapy all summer, taking prednisone, and trying a nerve block (which worked for 2 days and then the pain came back) I decided to get a nerve decompression surgery on my knee.
6 weeks after the surgery (the time the docs said), I started biking. I biked for 2 weeks and then started short jogging workouts and increased over time. My ankle was hurting a little with the running but not the way it did before the surgery and it didn’t hurt when the ankle was taped. However, my knee and my ankle have been hurting a lot when i lay down.
On Monday I had my first faster workout with short accelerations (start slow and increase into a faster run). It hurt a little during the workout but not that much. On Tuesday my ankle hurt to walk and this continued through Thursday, decreasing each day. I have not run since Monday. I saw my school sports doctor on Tuesday and she put me on voltaren but had no idea what the problem was and is sending me to our other sports doctor who I doubt will know either. Does anyone have any idea what this might be???
Today, walking a lot will make it hurt, but what hurts the most right now is staying still. If I stop moving I get a sharp aching in my ankle and some aching through my knee. The knee hurt on the outside back and the ankle hurts on the outside above the bone that sticks out right on the fibula.
Please help! It hurts when I lay down and is keeping me awake at night. I am a student and I really need to sleep because I’ve been sleeping through all my classes for the past 3 weeks.

my boyfriend has been having terrible back pain from a pinched sciatic nerve for the past week. he has a hard time getting up from a sitting position, bending over and lately hasnt even been able to pick up our 17 month old daughter. we cannot afford to send him to a chiropractor or a doctor so does anyone know of any stretches or homeopathic remedies that would help relieve some of the pain? thank you!

Massage helps temporarily. What else can I do. I can tell exactly where it starts – it sends a dull pain down my lower back, butt, upper leg and knee. Very uncomfortable!

My left shoulder and arm are killing me, the left side of my neck hurts slighty and my left hand is shaky.
I went to a chiropractor years ago for neck problems on that same side, but it got very expensive and time consuming.
Does this sound like a pinched nerve to anyone that may have experienced it? Are there any other remedies besides adjustments by a chiropractor?

used exercises were stretching of back muscles, hamstring, calf and planter fascia of foot. Also wall bar exercises (longitudinal traction). Beside improvement of back pain, i noticed that symptoms of sciatica (whatever the cause inflammation, or disc prolapse) nearly resolved and disappeared. What is the main mechanism of , specially sciatic nerve enchroachment by a disc, pain relief
