I’ve been to maybe 10 different doctors, a neurologist, a chiropractor, 2 physical therapists, and massage therapists. I’ve had xrays, MRIs, CT scans. It’s on both sides, but my right side it worse. It’s around my shoulder blade, collar bone, up my neck to the base of my skull. The masseuse described my muscles as a"steel cable" they were so tight. He put all his strength into losening my knots but most of the time I couldn’t even feel it. It’s getting worse and now my nerves are slightly pinched because my arm and fingers tingle. I’m never pain free. I can’t workout much or run because I’m too tight and uncomfortable. I’m thinking about resorting to Acupuncture! I’m running out of options and I can’t live like this anymore.

I’m 21 years old and a college student, but my workload isn’t too stressful.
I have tried most of those exercises and stretches, but haven’t stuck with them. I know I need to! I have a memory foam. And I have had surgery on both sides of my jaw for TMJ. The doctors assumed the surgery would fix my back. I’m trying my best to stick with the stretches. I guess I shouldn’t run then? :(

Can anyone suggest some exercises or moves that will help alleviate some of the pain I have? I’m 33 weeks pregnant so I can’t do anything too complicated. But I have a lot of lower pelvic pain and really bad sciatica, like a pinched nerve in my butt and upper leg. I’ve been sleeping with a pillow between my legs which helps but only a little. I don’t expect to be pain free this far into the pregnancy but there has to be something out there I can try that will bring me some comfort. Thanks!

I have had it for a week now..and my doctor gave me a cortisone shot. And that didn’t even help. She told me to take 800 mg of Mortin, which also doesn’t do anything. I have done the exercises online and walking and that makes it worse. The only thing that helps is not moving, which is impossible, cause I have a 4mo old baby. So any solutions? I will try ANYTHING!

I did some research online, and I’m convinced I have Sciatica in some form. Every so often, the left side of my back (kind of near the tailbone area) hurts. I walk like an old lady, and when I step on my left foot, this shooting pain runs right down my leg. This has been going on for almost two years, on and off.

Anyways, I can’t afford a doctor right now, so I was wondering if there are any home remedies for this. I know there are some exercises you can do, but what else? Has anyone else had this condition? What did you do?

Thanks so much!
Thanks Kaye! Know any FREE chiropractors?

during my second pregnancy i started having sciatica problems. my obgyn told me that it would go away after i had my son. well it didn’t, my nerve was damaged and just got worse and eventually got to the point i could not walk. my dr wouldn’t write me a referral to see a specialist because pregnancy medicaid would not pay for it and have no other insurance coverage. i have tried getting assistance everywhere and no one will help me. i went to a pain management center a few weeks ago and got a epidural steroid and it has helped allot but i am gradually getting back to the way i was but i cant get another epidural. i had to pay for that one and i cant afford another one. i know its harsh to say but i would rather be dead than to go through that again. im so scared i will be bed ridden again. please help me and let me know if there’s anything else i can do to relieve my pain. ive been on any pain medication out there and steroid packs and nothing has helped. im not able to do the exercises i found online. so if you know anything else, please help.

I suffer from a sciatica, and would like to build my back muscles to better support my spine. What are some safe exercises I can do to strengthen my muscles with the least risk of injury?

I think i have Sciatica.
I fit perfectly into the description. Its hurting on my right side. I can feel it in my lower back, my butt, and all the way down my leg.

What can I do about it? Is there some kind of cream/ointment/gel that i can use to ease the pain? Exercises that can help?

I’ve had it for a while and lately, the pain has been unbearable. Sometimes, i wake up in the morning and I cant stand up straight. That is when the pain is the worst.

Its weird because Im only 17

My husband has had worsening sciatica (diagnosed by the doctor) for about two months. Unfortunately job committments means that he does not have the time to take off to see a physiotherapist. I have been trying to find appropriate exercises to relieve his pain online but am bombarded with so many different ones, alongside conflicting advice about how doing the wrong ones can make the sciatica worse. Obviously we don’t want to do these, but how do we know which ones are safe to do? He has pain in his buttock which shoots down his leg, and has now got the stage where it is constant pain, with no relief, much worse when reaching for the feet but almost total relief when sitting.
Painkillers including anti inflammatories do nothing, and I bought him a support belt today, but the position it forced him in to caused him sickening pain.
can anyone offer advice or good websites? We are at our wits end
much appreciated.
He works on the railway, to get to work is a 2.5 hour drive there and back, and yes on his feet all day. But again there is no option to change jobs, he couldn’t afford to change his job full stop. I will see about finding him a chiropractor, thanks

I started experiencing sciatica pain in my lower back and left leg at the age of 16 which prevented me from doing regular exerise, playing football etc. – very young I’m told to experince this sort of problem. And as a result, after having consulted 2 doctors at the time to try and diagnose the specific problem, I was sent to a hospital for an X-RAY, and to a chiropractor to see exactly if there was any sort of problem.

I was told by both the doctors and chiropractic that the base of my spine was somewhat compounded and the discs were close together which could be causing the pain.

As with all chiropractors, I was given a strict routine of exercises to follow in the hope it would eradicate the problem, but I’m 21 years old now, and although it is often OK, I still experince seriously painful days or weeks where it won’t go away and prevents me almost walking, let alone training or doing anything.

Because of my age, I felt I perhaps was’nt taken as seriously as somebody with similar problems if they’d been middle-aged, but I now have no idea what to do. I was disheartened by the lack of help I was given and that the doctors did not recognise the severity of the problem hence why i have not returned.

Do I continue with exercise as best I can and just learn to live with it, or is this something that can be fixed with surgery. I find it difficult to see how any doctor of chiropractic can irradicate pain completely if the discs are compounded. I don’t particually wan’t to have to do those silly exercises every day for the rest of my life, so what are my options?

Hi, first posting, would be grateful for any advice, apologies for being long winded! OH has sciatica. He’s been complaining and visiting his GP for over three years complaining of back pain. The first year GP fobbed him off with "It’ll pass", he recommended paracetamol for when it got too bad. Some time later he saw a locum, who sent him for Xrays, where sciatica and mild arthritis were discovered. When he visited our normal GP for Xray results he was very unhappy that he’d been sent for xrays and told him it was "only" mild arthritis and sciatica and prescribed 600mg ibuprofen once a day. This initially worked, but not for long. He went back again, but was told time and time again it would pass and there was nothing more he, our GP, could do. Two years later, and the pain had become unbearable, he was sent home from work and could barely walk. Recommendations from health and safety at work, a year ago, had not been carried out, so this only make things worse. When my OH was sent home from work our GP prescribed Co Dydramol, 2, 3 times a day and a once monthly visit to a physiotherapist, who has given OH a list of exercises to do daily, every half hour, he visits her for once a month and she advises him if he’s doing them right or not. His last visit to the GP was last week, the pain is getting bad again and we both feel there could be something more they psychotherapist could be doing….GP advised him to put a board under our mattress…..we told him we’d already done that, he told us to put another one there!!!!!!

I don’t feel our GP has done enough for my OH, whether it be pain relief or pain management, and we still don’t feel he’s doing enough, could he be doing something more?

Also, any advise re pain relief – he works in a manual job and is due back in work in a week – would be gratefully appreciated.

Sorry for being long winded, and many thanks for any advice, replies.
