Sharp Lower Back Pain And Numbness In Toes? Maybe Pulled Muscle?
Well about a week and a half ago, I did stock at work, nothing out of the usual. I picked up some heavier boxes, but nothing insane, and I didnt feel any pain until later that night, about 5 hours. We went to see a movie and when I got up it was horrible. It is only on the left side, and it is righ where my back and butt meet. And yesterday, it was kind of like pulsing when i sat a certain way.
Well about two days ago, I felt numbness in my toes, and i thought maybe my sock was too tight or something cutting off the circulation. Well, I get the numbness now without socks or anything. What could this be, and how can I help it.
Also, when I sneeze and cough it causes my back SO much pain right in that spot.
Sometimes its worse than other times as well. And the simple task of getting up off a chair or laying down kills!

sounds like Sciatica,a very painful affliction,(if so you have my sympathy)
you need to first tell your mgr at the store vthat your in pain by lifting stuff and maybe you can be on workmans comp. but try getting some tiger balm at the pharmacy at walmart and put it on your back it should help
I would deff make your employer aware that you were hurt at work in case it becomes something serious, but it sounds like you just pulled a muscle really good or pinched a nerve because of the shooting pain!! Try hot baths and a sore muscle rub and if it does not go away see your doc he can give you muscle relaxers to help or something else if it is more serious!! I feel for you hun I hope it goes away soon!!
It sounds like you may have pinched the Sciatic nerve comming out of the spine.
It’s best to let the Doctor get a CT Scan or MRI (this is the better of the 2 options it shows soft tissue better than the CT scan does) and Xrays don’t show soft tissue well at all.
I would have to guess that you herniated or “slipped” a disc while moving the boxes. The reason I say this is because the tingling and/or numbness in the toes is a sure sign of sciatica a condition that occurs when the sciatic nerve is pinched or compressed. This compression is usually caused by a disc that is herniated or bulging from it’s normal position.
I would get to a neurologist asap because the longer the nerve is compressed , the higher the risk of permanent damage.
I’ve found that lying on my back with my knees up or lying in the fetal position with a pillow between my knees is usually relatively comfortable.
Check your blood sugar. Might be a kidney… diabetes.
It does sound like Sciatica.
Did you see your doctor? He may prescribe a pain killer.
Here are some other things that may help:
Keep moving and stretching (unless in severe pain)
Sleep on a firm mattress on your side or back with knees bent.
During bad attacks, sleep with a pillow under or between your knees.
Try not to sleep on your stomach.
Adjust the height of chairs so your feet are flat on the floor and the knees are a little higher than the hips.
Keep your feet flat on the floor and do not cross your legs when sitting.
Sit in chairs that have firm back support and sit up straight against the back of the chair.
P.S. I’ve been living with it for a long time
