I’ve been struggling with my lower back/sciatica pain for about three months now. I’m 21 and am a pretty advanced weight lifter. It all started with a severe episode of sciatica down my right leg about three months ago. It was immobilizing and the most painful thing I have ever experienced. The doctors took xrays and said there was nothing structurally wrong with my back (no bulging discs or anything) other than some "mild scoliosis". The diagnosed it as a lower back muscle spasms. I was given muscle relaxants and some physical therapy exercises to do at home. It took the pills and did the exercises and it seemed to go away for the most part.

When I came back from school I started working at my job which requires me to stand for 4-8 hours at a time. I work out in the morning and this seems to help the pain throughout the first part of the day, but towards the end of the day it gets very bad and it becomes very hard to stand. So basically it seems like the pain resets after I sleep at night and then gets agitated by standing for so long. Also, when my right leg starts to hurt during my day I start leaning on my left leg, but then the sciatic pain shifts to that leg eventually too which has never happened before.

I am scheduling a doctors appointment tomorrow, but I’d like to see if anyone has any opinions on what could be wrong with me. I’m getting very frustrated and don’t feel like I can take much more…

The muscles around my throat are tight, and the muscles on the back and sides of my neck are loose.

I used to slouch pretty bad, and I sleep in class all the time (I’m trying to stop, as it only seems to stretch out my neck more.) I’ve found a really good neck stretch that stretches out the back of the neck (not what I want), but when used used in the "inverse" position loosens up the muscles closer to my chin (which is good.) It’s called the "Upper Trapezius/Neck Stretch" and works great.

So I’m halfway there. Is there a stretch/position/exercise that tighten the back/sides of the neck?

I’ve had chronic back pain for the past two years. I’ve seen a physical therapist off and on for the past three years with little success. I just started seeing a chiropractor and he gave me a diagnosis of degenerative disc disease. It completely matches my symptoms. I’ve started the treatment and I haven’t noticed a difference yet. It’s also going to cost a lot and insurance won’t help much.

I know that some health care practitioners are skeptical about chiropractic medicine. What are your thoughts?

I have a really bad set of muscles at the back of my neck on one side where neck meets skull. They are as a result of a problem I have with a nervous twitch I have with my tongue. They are getting worse as they are building up in strength as the twitch continues, they hurt more, so I get stressed and my tongue twitches more!…its a vicious cycle!
Tried speech therapist, chiropractic treatment and chiropratic excercises, warm compresses, cold compresses, and am now stuck! I cant spend the rest of my life on medication to releave the pain! Has anyone got any ideas to help or has had a similar experience and tried anything wacky? Thank you!

For At Least 5 years now i’ve suffered from lower back pain it hurts more when im not doing much but at work it ease’s off a bit, i can’t lift my right leg very high it just hurts.I’ve tried Physiatrists (give Me exercises which never worked),Osteopathy (told me to come back when its worse) i need to know know is is worth the money to see a Chiropractor or try and treat myself?

i have really bad sciatica and have been signed off work for 2 weeks? is there anything i can do, i feel like im going to put on loadsa weight as i go to the gym every day usually!are there any exercises i can do and anything i can do the pain?
